About the Renaissance Revival Orchestra

OUR VISION

The Renaissance Revival Orchestra, a McCaffery Family Project with generous support from Fiddlesticks Performing Arts, is dedicated to creating one of Gippsland’s leading community orchestral programs. Based in Warragul, Victoria, in the heart of regional Australia, our mission is to bring the splendour of Baroque music into conversation with the vibrancy of contemporary repertoire, from timeless masterworks to the soundtracks shaping today’s culture. At our core, we are family-rooted, community-driven, and inspired by the conviction that music has the power to unite generations.

What Makes Us Unique

We do things a little differently. Our model is designed for busy lives: we value strong home practice or excellent sight reading skills, keep rehearsals to a minimum, and welcome confident players who may not be able to attend any practice session. This flexibility allows more musicians to join us, without significantly sacrificing quality. While we are a volunteer-driven ensemble, we actively hire guest professionals whose artistry raises our standard and inspires us to grow.

Musical Focus

Our programs celebrate both the old and the new. We love diving into shorter works by Baroque masters such as Bach, Vivaldi, and Handel, while also embracing modern gems and pieces that accompany choirs and solo singers. The result is concerts that move seamlessly between historic grandeur and contemporary wonder, creating performances that feel both accessible and exciting.

Community Impact

We believe music is for everyone. Every performance is an opportunity to inspire young and old people across Gippsland to take up an instrument, and to show families that world-class music can thrive locally — no need to travel to Melbourne. Beyond the notes, our orchestra is about friendships, collaboration, and building a culture of joy, resilience, and creativity in our region.

Our People

The Renaissance Revival Orchestra brings together some of Gippsland’s best musicians, each a specialist on their instrument and united by a shared passion for performance. Alongside them, we regularly collaborate with professional artists who share their expertise, enriching our sound and helping us lift the level of music-making in our community.

An Invitation to Join

We are always excited to welcome new people into our orbit:

    • Musicians who are keen to play, whether regularly or occasionally.

    • Choirs and singers looking for orchestral partnerships.

   • Supporters and donors who believe in nurturing local arts.

   • Professional players willing to share their artistry with Gippsland.

Together, we aim not for perfection, but for something more powerful — the joy of making music as a community and the inspiration that comes from playing together.
